Definitely not in (ar)kansas anymore

I just sold everything and moved to Jerusalem. Good grief, that sounds so weird. This small town, naive girl is now sitting in a small apartment right in the heart of downtown Jerusalem. Culture shock. Mental exhaustion. Peace in the midst.

So, what's life like in the City of God? Not necessarily what I expected. It's actually fairly normal. Except for the foreign language, the interesting food, and everyone always yelling at one another... Evidently that's how you get things done here. You yell. For example, I bought a washing machine last Sunday. They delivered it two days later even though the store was not quite a block from my apartment. But then I had to call the "service" to have them come and hook it up. At this point I getting really excited at the thought of clean clothes, but when I called the service, they said the soonest they could come was next Monday and that if I hook it up myself, I won't have a waranty on it. So there it sits, just outside of the little hole that will someday be its home, waiting.... And driving me crazy.

Well, two days ago, after trying desperately to get the Internet company to come and hook me up, I finally asked my wonderful landlady to call them for me. After talking a while she handed me the phone and the girl confirmed my order and then told me that they would be able to hook it up on October 6. WHAT????? I gotta get some work done!!! I handed the phone back to Racheli with a pleading, pitiful look in my eyes. She took the phone, yelled for about 10 minutes and then hung up. My internet was hooked up this morning. I can't help but think that if Racheli had called the "service", I would have clean clothes right now.
